Factors are what we can multiply to get the number. Multiples are what we get after multiplying the number by an integer (not a fraction).

A prime number is a whole number that only has two factors which are itself and one. A composite number has factors in addition to one and itself. The numbers 0 and 1 are neither prime nor composite. All even numbers are divisible by two and so all even numbers greater than two are composite numbers.

The lowest common multiple is found by multiplying all the factors which appear in either list: So the LCM of 60 and 72 is 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 × 5 which is 360.

The highest common factor is found by multiplying all the factors which appear in both lists: So the HCF of 60 and 72 is 2 × 2 × 3 which is 12.

1. if the number is divisible by another number, then it is divisible by each of the factors of that numbers.

2. if the number is divisible by each of the two or more co prime number, then it is divisible by their products.

3. if the number is the factor of each of the given numbes, then it is a factor of their sum.

4. if the number is the factor of each of the given numbers, then it is a factor of their difference.
