Cuboid as a shape and its properties are examined.

Objectives

  1. Properties of a cuboid.
  2. Derivation of the formula for total surface area, lateral surface area and volume of a cuboid.
  3. Understand the concept of open cuboid, closed cuboid.

Prerequisites/Instructions, prior preparations, if any

Students should know concept of area and should be able to calculate area for plane figures

Digital: Laptop, geogebra file, projector and a pointer.

Process (How to do the activity)

  1. Project geogebra file and let children explore a cuboid from all angles by moving the sliders.
  2. Ask the following questions.

  3. Recognise the face of each surface of the cuboid.
  4. Are all faces congruent ?
  5. Which of the faces are congruent ?
  6. What is the formula to find area of a rectangle ?
