Opening Bank Accounts - Jana dhana yojana

Helping students open bank accounts in their own names (and jointly with their parents and siblings) will not only help financial inclusion, but also help students learn about banking, commercial arithmetic and similar topics. It will connect Mathematics and Economics to real life for students. Also these accounts are easy to maintain (no frills)

The Government of India has the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY),under which, the school / teachers can help students open bank accounts. See Activity on opening bank accounts under Banking transactions topic for this activity.

If teachers in all schools can ensure all students have bank accounts under this scheme, it will have a huge socio-economic and educational impact.

Insurance for families

Most families in India have no accident or life insurance. The Government of India has announced the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) schemes to enable all to have basic accident and life insurance for very low premium amounts.
