Agents of socialization play an important role in reinforcing culturally defined gender roles for boys and girls. Thus, gender socialization means the learning of behaviour and attitudes considered appropriate for a given sex. This often becomes the basis of differential treatment and contributes to the perpetuation of gender based inequalities.
