Construction of triangle with 2 sides and an angle SSA - conceptual error .ggb

Process (How to do the activity)

  1. Draw a triangle with following measures - AB = 8 cms, ∡CAB = 40, BC = 6 cms (BC as the base)

‘Play’ the construction protocol navigator to understand the construction, after students have constructed on their own

    1. What kind of triangle is it?
      1. What kind of triangle is it - by sides?
      2. What kind of triangle is it - by angles?
    2. The circle drawn from point B, intersect RAY AC in a second point ‘E’.Will Triangle ABE fulfil the requirements of the construction? What can you infer from this construction specifications.

(Hint – if a set of specifications can allow us to draw more than one triangle, then it is not a unique specification).

The specification in this example is ASS (Angle -side – side) and not SAS (Side – angle - side)
