Objectives:

  • able to identify the complement number.
  • able to compare it to addition of numbers.
  • able to compare complement of 10 to complement of 100.
  • able to do addition through playing game.

Incorporating inclusive strategies:

• students learn addition of numbers through games.

• Students can answer in their own pace.

• students increases the speed of answering the question by multiple chances.

• Students can make use of their fingers to answer if they find it difficult.

• This game can be played for 5 min at the end of the class or beginning of the class.

Procedure:

Complements of 10

Process:

Make small groups of 8-10 students in each group. The facilitator ask "ist ide" (say number 4) "yest beku"? to make a complement number 10, the students think and answer it as 6 to the facilitator. Now the same student will ask "ist ide" "yest beku" for the next student and the student will answer to his/her friend’s question. This process is repeated till each student gets a chance to pass the number. This process can be repeated until each child gets his turn for 3- 4 times .

Complement of 100

Process:

Make small groups of 8-10 students in each group. The facilitator ask "ist ide"(say number 30) "yest beku"? to make a complement number 100, the students think and answer it as 70 to the facilitator. Now the same student will ask "ist ide" (let say 80) "yest beku"? for the next student and the student will answer it as 20 to his/her friend’s question. This process is repeated till each student gets a chance to pass the number. This process can also be repeated until each child gets his turn for 3- 4 times.

Note: the facilitator should tell the student to ask the question only the multiple of 10.

Complement of 20:

Process:

Make small groups of 8-10 students in each group. The facilitator ask "ist ide"(say number 12) "yest beku"? to make a complement number 20, the students think and answer it as 8 to the facilitator. Now the same student will ask "ist ide" (let say 7) "yest beku"? for the next student and the student will answer it as 13 to his/her friend’s question. This process is repeated till each student gets a chance to pass the number. This process can also be repeated until each child gets his turn for 3- 4 times.
