Introducing formation of angle
Name of the activity
Brief blurb describing what the activity. If this has been borrowed from some external web site (for example, a non OER or OER site which had this idea and based on which the activity was developed)
Objectives
- Introduce children to the concept of angle
- To introduce measure of angles
- Methods of measuring angles
Estimated Time
30 minutes
Prerequisites/Instructions, prior preparations, if any
- Digital : Computer, geogebra application, projector.
- Non digital : Worksheet and pencil.
- Geogebra files : "Introduction to angle formation”
Download this geogebra file from this link.
Materials/ Resources needed
- Digital : Computer, geogebra application, projector.
- Non digital : Worksheet and pencil.
- Geogebra files : "Introduction to angle formation”
Process (How to do the activity)
Prior hands on activity (optional – children can use two pieces of thread to move around a fixed point or two sticks tied with a thread).
-Formation of angle
Use the file to demonstrate formation of angle
Ask how segments rotation changes angle
Ask how many angles are formed
-Measure angles
How do you measure this angle
Measure both angles as the children say
Ask if there is any difference in the angle measures
Mention the convention of clockwise/anticlockwise measurement
Mention reflex/exterior angle
Is there a relation between the two angles measured
-Angle measure independent of segment length
Does the angle depend on the segment length – drag the line segments to show.
Evaluation at the end of the activity
- What are the different types of angles?
- When two segments are joined at a point how many angles are formed?
- What is the measure of the total angle formed at a point is?
- What is the convention used to measure angles?
