Process (How to do the activity)

Download this geogebra file from this link.

Procedure:

  1. In Circle with centre 'A',BD is a chord, 'p' is major arc and 'd' is minor arc which is represented in red and blue colour respectively.
  2. Identify minor segment and major segment.
  3. Identify and measure the Angles in major segment
  4. If you change the radius of the circle,Did you observe any changes in the angle measurement? (or) Is the measurement of angle dependant on the circle radius?
  5. Find that all angles in the same segment are equal

Application:

The angle subtended by an arc at the circle in minor segment is obtuse angle. What is value of angle subtended by it in the major segment?

Evaluation at the end of the activity

What do you mean by the minor segment of a circle?

How will you define the major segment of a circle?

If a chord AB subtended an angle 80° at centre, then what will be the measure of angles subtended by same chord in the same segment of the circle at point P and Q?
