Name of Activity:- Dumb charades

Objectives:-

  • To introduce the students to the game ‘Dumb charades’.
  • To build in students, an ability to communicate.
  • To help students recall their vocabulary.
  • To enrich students’ vocabulary.
  • To alleviate inhibitions in students, and make them comfortable to converse.

Estimated Time:-

Approximately 45 minutes for a class consisting of 8 groups with 5-6 students in each group. (Time may vary depending upon the class strength)

Materials/ Resources needed:-

Colourful pictures, Book, Pen/Pencil, Projector and screen, Computer.

Prerequisites/Instructions, if any :-

  • Introduce students to the Dumb charades game.
  • Explain rules of the activity to the students.
  • Encourage students to work as a team.

Process (How to do the activity)

  1. Form groups of up to 5-6 children per group.
  2. Ask children to discuss within their group and select a representative for enacting the given picture; but other team members can support as needed
  3. While one group enacts their interpretation of the given picture through action and gestures the other groups will try and guess what the picture is all about.
  4. Simultaneously the teacher has to make a list of all the words generated from the groups when they are making the guesses using mind map and project it on the screen.
  5. Once the audience group have successfully guessed what is being enacted, call upon another group to enact the given picture.
  6. Similarly, conduct this activity for all the groups.
