It is my first day at school. Mummy is holding

my hand and walking with me.

“I am grown up now,” I say. “Let go, let go!”

There are many children near the school.

They come by bus. They come by car. They

come by rickshaw. They cycle.

They walk, like me.

There are many new faces all around me.

Mummy says, "Rani, I will be here when you

come out."

I let go of her hand. She waves to me. I run

inside.

Short story.png

process:

We used ASER tools for the reading activity to focus on determining whether a student can read alphabets, words, paragraphs, and stories by interacting with each child individually, In order to evaluate the reading skills in Kannada and English the child was initially made to read the words; if they could read it, we advised them to move to the paragraph; even in this, if they felt confident reading, we allowed them to read stories. We would ask the child to identify the letters if they were having trouble in reading words.

We used the common evaluation criteria, which are listed below, for children of all skill levels.

Rubric:

Student names able to recognize less than five letters Able to recognize 5-10 letters able to read less than 5 words. able to read 5-8 words struggling to read the simple sentences able to read all the simple sentences able to read the full story with 4/5 mistakes or is able to read very slowly able to read the full story fluently without any hesitation and mistakes Comments
