Pick and Speak

From Karnataka Open Educational Resources

Objectives:

To assess students’ abilities in speaking

Process: Part 1 :

The ‘Pick and Speak’ activity is designed to assess individually the speaking abilities of a child. Each child was asked to select a picture from a list of 12 pictures of everyday objects on the tab. They first had to click on the image and identify the object. If the child was able to identify the object, they were then asked to try and describe that object in both English and Kannada.

Part 2 (only Kannada) :

After completing Part 1, students were asked to select an audio file from a list of 9, each having a question in Kannada. They were asked to think for a minute and then respond in at least 3 sentences. Questions were related to their day-to-day life such as What do you like to do in your free time? Why?, What do you do every day before and after school?, Which is your favourite game, and how is it played?

For children who didn’t understand or speak Kannada, the questions were translated in their Home language to encourage them to try.
