Activity - Demonstrate elementary and compound events

Process (How to do the activity)

  1. Divide class into three activities. Children into groups of 2/3 but different groups.
  2. Experiments include:
    1. tossing two coin and recording the results
    2. rolling two dice and record the number of times each number comes up
    3. pulling out a red/ green/ blue pencil from a collection of colour pencils; two groups document this together
    4. extend this example by changing the number of red/green/blue pencils to be not equal in the collection

Developmental Questions (What discussion questions)

  1. Make a tree diagram from the same example. Define the probability of an event
  2. Work with the table on Page 103 of the text book
