Constructionist learning is when learners construct mental models to understand the world around them. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constructionism_(learning_theory) Constructionism] advocates student-centered, discovery learning where students use information they already know to acquire more knowledge.Seymour Papert developed a learning theory called constructionism which extended the idea of constructivism.  You can read more about the possibilities of using computers in for learning in Papert's book [http://www.arvindguptatoys.com/arvindgupta/mindstorms.pdf Mindstorms, Children, Computers and Powerful Ideas].

The paper also discusses how MediaWiki and Wikimedia projects are currently being used by IT for Change (ITfC) to promote open, collaborative and distance learning, to illustrate how these technologies can support and promote ODL at individual, institutional and systemic levels. Not only does the use of MediaWiki enhances the availability of learning resources for ODL programs, it also enables the participation of teachers and learners as co-constructors of knowledge, in line with constructivist approaches to learning.
