We will learn the following types of angles: right angles, acute angles, obtuse angles, straight angles, reflex angles and complete angle.

Objectives

Introduce children to different types of angles

Estimated Time

30 minutes

Prerequisites/Instructions, prior preparations, if any

Prior knowledge of point, lines, angles

Materials/ Resources needed

  • Digital : Computer, geogebra application, projector.
  • Non digital : Worksheet and pencil.
  • Geogebra files : "Types of angles.ggb"

Download this geogebra file from this link.

Process (How to do the activity)

  • Prior hands on activity (optional – children can use two pieces of thread or sticks to move around a fixed point or two sticks tied with a thread).
  • Vary the slider to show different angles formed
  • What is observed with the change in position of the arm
  • Mention the type of the angle depending on their measurements
  • How does the change in arm length change the angle measure
  • Vary the length of the arm to show that angle formed are independent of the arm length
  • Record the values of arm lengths, values of angles and their types in the worksheet
