  • To create an awareness about balanced diet and motivate the adolescent to eat healthy.

Facts:

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) defines an adolescent as any person between ages 10 and 19. It is a time when significant physical, psychological, and social changes occur.
  • In India, 40 per cent of girls and 18 per cent of boys are anemic. (UNICEF – 2022)
  • The prevalence of thinness in boys and girls thus estimated is 58.1% and 46.8% in NFHS-3, and 45% and 42% in NFHS-4 respectively.
  • Aadolescence provides an opportunity to correct nutritional deficiencies that may have occurred in early life and to catch-up on growth, and to establish good dietary behaviors

Activity:

  1. Divide the group into smaller groups. Provide them a picture of circle. Ask them to assume that the circle is their plate and suggest them to write down the meals they ate previous day.
  2. Show them the healthy plate and discuss about different food groups. Ask them to fill in the food pyramid with pictures in the order of priority. (Provide pictures of different foods).
  3. Discuss about mal nutrition, nutritional deficiency disorders and link it to anaemia. Discuss about iron rich foods which are locally available and affordable.
  4. Screening of a short video about balanced diet by Dietician, Padmavathy.
