About the Course
This MOOC is designed principally for practicing teachers who want to rise their voice towards social change and active action related to gender issues in the classroom and out of the classroom. Present course will also be useful to Teachers, Student teachers and teacher educators, providing them with an understanding of the challenges of gender issue and sensation about those issue. The course explores how teachers can recognize the issues and find the solution for those issues. In this course we work through detailed contemporary issues of 21st century. The course provides a mix of theory and practice, of thinking and doing, and opportunities to share ideas, experience and resources with other participants through discussion forum.
Course Objectives
Define the concepts Sex, Gender, Patriarchy,
Matriarchy, Masculinity and Transgender.
Reflect upon the concepts like Gender norms - Gender equity and gender equality - Gender bias - Gender-based violence - Gender integration - Gender transformation.
Explains the historical background of social and education movements for gender equality in India.
Analyze the Educational initiatives for women empowerment.
Identify the ways to address gender issues
challenges in different social fields.
Explain the role of Mahila Samakhya in gender mainstream.

Course Outline
WEEK 1 - INTRODUCTION ABOUT GENDER
- Basic concepts of Gender (Sex, Gender, Patriarchy, Matriarchy, Masculinity and Transgender, Gender norms -Gender equity and gender equality - Gender bias - Gender-based violence - Gender integration - Gender transformation).
- Historical background of social and educational movements of the 19th and 20th centuries.
- Gender discrimination in different spheres of women's life - Family, Society, Media, Caste, Health & Population trend, Culture, religion, Vocation and sexuality
WEEK 2 - IWOMEN EMPOWERMENT
- Focus on women's education- Savithribai Pule, Kamaladevi Chattopadhyaya, Yashodhara Dasappa.
- Women empowerment - Political, Social, Economical/Commerce, Educational, Administration, Literary.
- Gender discrimination in Education - School Environment, Curriculum, Textbooks, Classroom Interaction, Pedagogy and Teachers attitude.
WEEK 3- GOVERNMENT INITIATIVES
Gender equality in curricular frame work.
National Policy on education 1986, POA - 1992 & NCF – 2005.
Constitutional provisions.
WEEK 4 - MAHILA SAMAKYA
Mahila Samakhya and its Initiatives.
Roles and responsibility of Mahila Samakhya.
Schemes of State and Central government for improve the status of women.
Credit and Length of the Course:
This MOOC is equivalent to 2 credit i.e. 24 hours course offered as a time bounded mode (3 May to 30 May, 2020) in a period of 4 weeks. There are 4 modules, hence I recommend that you spend per weeks (4 – 5 hours online hours and 1 hours for additional reading) for each module.
Certification:
Two levels of e-certification are available based on your level of participation and completion of tasks/activities:
Certificate of Participation: requires participation in at least 5 reflection discussion forums and completion of all quizzes.
- Certificate of Completion: requires 60% score on all quizzes, participation in at least 5 reflection discussion forums and the creation and completion of all 4 assignments with 60% score.
