Activity - It's a Wrap with Combinations

Materials/ Resources needed
- Pencils
- Clear bags for paper manipulatives
- Paper manipulatives copied, cut and placed in plastic bags

Process (How to do the activity)
- Prepare the paper manipulatives and put in clear bags. NOTE: Be sure to include more of each item than is needed so that students must think about when to stop putting combinations together.
- Demonstrate how to make wrapping paper/bow combinations using exactly one paper and one bow.
- Have students work in groups to create all of the possible wraps using exactly one paper and one bow.
- Once groups are finished, demonstrate how to represent all of the combinations using a tree diagram.
- Have students create their own tree diagrams to match their wrapping creations.
- Closure - discuss why there are exactly nine possible wrap combinations using only one paper and one bow.
