          Tumkur is one of the progressive district of Karnataka situtated in the southern part of karnataka. Tumkur the district head quarter is located 70 km N.W. of Bangalore. The district falls between 12-45º and 1420º North Latitude and 76-20º and 77-31º East Longtitude. It is bounded by Ananthapura district in the N.E. (A.P.), Chitradurga district in the north Hassan in the west mandya and Bangalore in the South and Kolar in the S.E. Tumkur is the anglicised form of ―Tumukuru which is derived by the term Tummeguru or Tumbe-ooru. Which inturn derived by a name Thumbe, a small herb belongs to labiatae family used to grow luxuniantly in the vicinity. Within a district, One or more taluks form a revenue sub-division.
