To assess the reading  competencies in Kannada and English language, we referred ASER tools for the reading activity to focus on the intent of assessing whether a student can read alphabets, words, paragraphs and stories by interacting with every child individually. Initially the child was made to read the words, if they were able to read then we would tell to go to paragraph, even in this if they were comfortable to read then we would make them to read stories. When the child faces difficulty in reading words then we would asked them to identify the letters. To assess we had used the standard rubrics for all level of children which is given below.
