Process (How to do the activity)

  1. Project the geogebra file that would enable the students to visualise an opened cube.
  2. Ask the following questions.
  • Developmental Questions:
  1. What is the formula to find the area of a square ?
  2. What does the term 'area' mean ?
  3. What is the meaning of total surface area ?
  4. How many squares are there totally in a cube ?
  5. Therefore what is the total surface area of a cube.?
  6. What does the term 'lateral' mean ?
  7. What is lateral surface area ?
  8. How many squares are there in a lateral surface of a cube ?
  9. Hence what is the formula to find the lateral surface area of a cube ?
  10. What does the term 'volume'mean ?
  11. What is the formula for volume in general?
  12. What is the formula for volume of cube ?
  • Evaluation
  1. Were the students able to comprehend the difference between area and volume ?
  2. Were they able to understand the distinction between the lateral surface area and total surface area ?
  • Question Corner:
  1. What is the formula to find the area for a cuboid cantainer with no lid and with lid ?
  2. Give some examples of objects which are cuboidal in shape.
