ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಕಥೆಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಸಂಬಂಧವಿದೆ. ಅವರು ಕಥೆ ಕೇಳುವುದನ್ನು ಆನಂದಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕಥೆ ನಿರೂಪಣೆ ಮಾಡುವ ರೀತಿಗೆ ಪರಿಚಿತರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕಥೆ ಹೇಳುವಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ಸಾಧನವಾಗಿ ಬಳಸುವುದು, ಆಲಿಸುವ, ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ಮತ್ತು ಓದುವ ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಪಡಿಸಲು ಕಥೆಗಳು ತುಂಬಾ ಉಪಯುಕ್ತವಾಗಿವೆ.
