Prerequisites/Instructions, if any

  1. Allow students to bring up ideas for why India is seen as being 'under developed', and build on them.
  2. Encourage debate in the Indian context of different facets of 'development' - economic/material, non material etc.
  3. Bhutan has a concept of 'happiness index' - is this relevant or useful to measure development?
  4. Encourage all students to participate

Question Corner

There are several factors which cause a country to be under developed. Which of these apply to India? Can you rank these factors in their order of importance? India is a land of 'spiritualism' and many religions have also been born here. Is there any relationship between this and the low level of economic development?
