Objectives of the workshop

  1. Familiar with the digital literacy curriculum
  2. To transact digital literacy curriculum in class rooms
  3. To help computer teacher acquire more knowledge about ICT
  4. To explore computers teachers to Free and Open source software
  5. Helps computer teachers to support in schools technology related to administration related work

2 Introduction to FOSS and overview of Ubuntu 10.15 – 11.00 Demo 1. Introduction to Free and Open source platform and tools

2 Introduction to the custom distribution installed in the lab – go through applications category 3. Introduction to Ubuntu Interface – Gnome and Unity and how to change 4. Go through Ubuntu files and folder introduction.

3 Educational applications for learning subjects – 1 11.15 – 2.30 Demo + Hands on Introduction to different educational tools

- Geogebra - create visual representations of different concepts in algebra and geometry. - Marble - used to teach maps of different regions - Indic Anagram - used to strengthen language skills (vocabulary) - PhET - collection of interactive science simulations. - H5P - to create and share rich and interactive content

4 Introduction to DL curriculum 2.30 – 3.00 Demo A proposed abridged DL curriculum for the schools based on the first textbook based on the NCERT curriculum

- Go through the abridged digital literacy curriculum – online KOER - Go thorough abridged offline text book to transact in schools – HTML formate - Use tools handouts for the learning and teaching FOSS tools – Explore an application

5 Data representation and processing 3.00 – 4.30 Demo + Hands on 1. Create text document of the analysed pictures- using Libreoffice

2. Read different kinds of data create concept map of that 2. Inserting nodes and child nodes 3. Typing in the nodes - English and Kannada 4. Linking external(web) and internal(Local files) links 5. Adding notes to any node to give additional details 6. Saving and exporting map into different formats

1 Audio visual communication 9.30 – 11.30 Demo + Hands on Introduction to audio visual tools

1. Kazam – to create video resources by recording your screen along with your audio 2. Audacity – to create audio resources – by recording, editing and adding effects

2 Communication with graphics 11.45 – 12.45 Demo + Hands on 1. Create your imagined stories in picture story format – Tux paint

2. Create series of pictures of your stories 3. Present as animation 4. Usage image viewer – play as slideshow, convert image formats and to see the image properties 5. Insert your created images using tuxpaint to text documents – tell story by combining multiple resources

3 What is the nature of ICT 1.30 – 2.30 Reading and discussion 1. Go through (read) the chapter and the activities

2. Discuss about the importance of ICT 3. Getting introduced to the ICT environment 4. Understanding the role of hardware and software and what makes digital ICT special

4 What is the nature of ICT 2.30 - 3.00 Demo + Handson 1. To get familiarise with keyboard typing practise

2. Use tux typing – for typing practise

5 Educational applications for learning subjects - 2 3.00 – 4.00 Demo + Hands on 1. Getting familiar working with different features in Geogebra to learn maths

2. Learning maths b creating free hand sketches of geometric shapes 3. Recreating given objects using different functionalities in the Geogebra tool bar 4. Building a library of Geogebra files for further learning

6 Introduction to ICT environment 4.00 – 4.30 Demo + Hands on 1.Basic troubleshooting of hardware

2. Ubuntu basic troubleshooting. 3. using online forume to resolve basic software or hardware issues
