CELT RIESI Language Workshop
One-day workshops on "Audio materials development" for participants of the CELT program (different batches) of RIESI - July 27, 2019, August 24, 2019, September 8, 2019, January 25, 2020, March 1, 2020, March 12, 2021.
Objectives of the workshop
- Exploring new digital methods for language learning. Exploring Audacity FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) tool to create rich language resources for use in a language lesson
- Learning recording and editing audio using Audacity. Making your audio resource richer by using multiple audio files (background music)
- Introduce the philosophy of creating and adapting existing audio resources (Open Educational Resources created with FOSS)
- Publishing created audio resource on a public repository for use of all teachers

Audacity interface - Go through the audio recording process – record pause, play, stop and save as project file, export. Mobile apps are like sound recorder, audio recorder, recorder Record and save audio files. |

Some principles for recording audio resource
Pedagogical principles (Principles for recording conversations amongst two or more people)
- Relevant to the student school community home context.
- Meaningful. Richness, variety.
- Allowing scope for background music, sounds.
- Appropriate level of language complexity.
Technology rules (Rules for getting a good quality recording using your mobile phone or laptop)
- Script need to be ready before recording and detailed
- Find out a less noisy and closed place to record
- Turn off fans and air conditioners, use curtains or thick cloth to cover windows
- Don't use computer which makes noise
- Keep your Mic at-least 15cm away from your mouth
- Use good head phones –
- Audio jacks are working fine
- Mic input is working
- Headphones should support audacity or any other audio tools
- Input level should be less than 100%
- Do test recording to check quality. Satisfy yourself before final recording
