Objectives

  • Introducing lines, rays and line segments
  • Understanding formation of angles and their types
  • Differentiating parallel lines and non-parallel lines
  • Recognizing angles, pairs of angles formed in parallel lines
  • To visualize geometrical ideas with real life situations
  • To enrich the academic progression
  • To provide learning support to students who lag behind in skill development
  • To support building of foundational skills and conceptual understanding in students

Introduction

You will explore the angles formed when two lines intersect each other, as well as the angles formed when a line intersects two or more parallel lines at distinct points. You will then use these properties to use deductive reasoning to prove some statements.

Basic terms and Definitions

What are segments, rays and lines?

We will learn the following concepts : Segments, rays and Lines and its symbolic representations. A part (or portion) of a line with two end points is called a line-segments. A part of a line with one end point is called a ray. A line is formed by endlessly extending the two end points in either direction. As a result, we can state that a line has no end point.

What are Angles?

An angle is the figure formed by two rays, called the sides of the angle, sharing a common endpoint, called the vertex of the angle.
